AUSTRALIAN CERVICAL CANCER FOUNDATION

Cervical cancer kills more than a quarter of a million women every year worldwide, 90% of these women live in developing countries.
photo_02.jpgIn developing countries like Nepal and Bhutan, cervical cancer is the number one cause of cancer death in women between the ages of 20 and 60 and far exceeds even breast cancer.

Thankfully, cervical cancer is now largely preventable due to the HPV vaccine developed by Professor Ian Frazer, the 2006 Australian of the Year, and a Director of the ACCF. Over time, with resolve and commitment it may be possible to eliminate cervical cancer through vaccination. In developing countries we are working to educate communities about the benefits of vaccination and to deliver the HPV cervical cancer vaccine free of charge.

PROSTATE CANCER FOUNDATION

The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) was founded in 1993 to find better treatments and a cure for prostate cancer. Through its unique model for soliciting and selecting promising research programs and rapid deployment of resources, the PCF has funded more than 1,500 programs at nearly 200 research centers in 20 countries around the world.

In 2007, 30 percent fewer men in the U.S. died from prostate cancer compared to what was once projected. The PCF is a force of HOPE for more than 16 million men and their families around the world who are currently facing the disease.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation has accomplished a great deal, but there is still much more to do. Please join us in this race to find a cure for prostate cancer.

BONE CANCER RESEARCH FOUNDATION

We are a non-profit foundation created to raise public awareness about bone cancer and to support research into improving diagnosis, treatment and cure. Approximately 2,500 new cases of primary bone cancer are diagnosed each year in the U.S. With your help, we can continue to aid research into better diagnosis, treatment and cure and provide more effective support and education for patients.

THE BRAIN TUMOR FOUNDATION

The Brain Tumor Foundation (BTF) guides and supports patients and families during the turbulent times when their lives are touched by a brain tumor. We raise awareness among medical professionals and the public about the need for the early detection of brain tumors while continuing to offer support groups, medical referrals, peer matching programs such as Phone-a-Friend, and events including our annual conference, Brain Tumor Awareness Day. Our expertise, compassion and resources ensure that brain tumor patients have a powerful ally in their fight against this disease. Because no one should face this battle alone.

BLADDER CANCER: MEDLINEPLUS

The bladder is a hollow organ in your lower abdomen that stores urine. Bladder cancer occurs in the lining of the bladder. It is the sixth most common type of cancer in the United States.
Symptoms include
  • Blood in your urine
  • A frequent urge to urinate
  • Pain when you urinate
  • Low back pain
Smoking is a major risk factor for bladder cancer. Exposure to certain chemicals in the workplace is another. People with a family history of bladder cancer or who are older, white or male have a higher risk.
Treatments for bladder cancer include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and biologic therapy. Biologic therapy, or immunotherapy, boosts your body's own ability to fight cancer.
